Fall Intermediate:
The Intermediate Program is designed for athletes who have developed a solid foundation in rowing and are ready to take the next step in their training. Intermediate rowers have demonstrated proficiency with posture, balance, and basic strength movements and have typically completed at least two seasons of Beginner Rowing at Saugatuck Rowing Club or another rowing program.
Athletes will continue to build on the fundamentals while learning how to train with greater intention, consistency, and focus. Training includes rowing technique, land-based strength and mobility exercises, and workouts designed to help athletes become stronger, safer, and more effective rowers. The Intermediate Program also provides a gradual introduction to the training expectations of the competitive team through smaller workloads and a supportive environment. Advancement to the competitive team is based on an athlete’s readiness, work ethic, consistency, and ability to demonstrate sound body mechanics on the water. Not every athlete will be ready to move up after one season, allowing each rower the time they need to develop confidence and skills at their own pace.
During the Winter Season, athletes train indoors, continuing to improve their rowing technique and fitness through erg workouts and bodyweight strength exercises.
