Greta  Gilbert began rowing at Saugatuck Rowing Club her sophomore year of high school, racing in both the novice 8 and varsity boats during her first year on the water. In her second year, she placed 10th at the Head of the Charles Regatta after starting from the 35th position, won the San Diego Crew Classic in the second varsity eight, and finished 10th in the lightweight four at Nationals. As a senior, she rowed to a 7th-place finish in the Women's 8 at the Head of the Charles before COVID-19 brought her final season at Saugatuck to an early close.

Recruited to row at Cornell University, Greta went on to become a four-year varsity athlete, racing as stroke seat of the second varsity and bow of the first varsity. Alongside her collegiate career, she competed for Conshohocken, an elite lightweight program in Philadelphia, where she won Club Nationals in the lightweight quad and raced at Senior World Trials as bow seat of the lightweight quad.

During her time at Cornell, Greta studied developmental neuroscience and researched the transnational impact on child suggestibility in witness testimony. Also during her time at Cornell, She also worked as a learn-to-row coach at Cascadilla Boathouse, heading up both the youth and masters learn-to-row programs and introducing new rowers of all ages to the sport.

Now a law student working in the chambers of a federal judge, Greta returns to Saugatuck for the summer. A competitive sculler herself, she holds a particular soft spot for sculling and enjoys sharing that passion with the athletes she coaches.
